After Spade's injury, the reader saw more development in the relationship between him and Alma and how they navigate the dangers involved in the business he's in, as well as his colourful past that won't let him go. I liked this a lot, more action than the first and the lead characters have become more rounded and engaging. Despite all the gloss, you really get to feel the love story developing, along with their pain. Now, got to get to Book 3!
In this second installment, Alma and Spade try to keep their relationship afloat, despite a lot of pressure and the feeling that things are closing in around them. This second novella is more suspense-filled than Book 1, and I liked that about it. There are more steamy moments between Alma and Spade, and the reader gets the HEA in the end with a nice twist; so, it feels complete. But, I'm still going to get to Book 3 to check-out what comes next.
LS Bergman writes well, and the story is properly edited throughout. There are none of those frequent typos that detract from so many self-published books. I loved the dreamy London and LA settings and descriptions. And, I liked the pace of the writing generally, that the writer doesn't get bogged down in too much backstory.
