In the early years of parenting, mothers spend countless hours considering the best ways to raise their children to be happy and healthy. One of the first decisions that they make is how to feed their babies. Once a mother has chosen to breastfeed, it may seem like that is that, but the question of how long to breastfeed a child is laced with controversy and conflict in our society.
It is rare to see a child nursing to 6 months, let alone into toddlerhood. What about children that are nursed past toddlerhood, children that are nursed to their third birthday and sometimes far beyond? What brings a mother to decide to continue breastfeeding for so long past the societal norm?
Children who breastfeed past their third birthday certainly exist. There are probably many more—even just in your own community—than you realize, but why don’t we see these nursing children more?
In this collection of stories from mothers all over the world and from many walks of life, Janell E. Robisch takes you on an exploration of the reasons, joys, and challenges of full-term nursing from the perspective of the very mothers who have been there, done that.

What better support group can there be than reading anecdotes, memories and musings of fellow long-term breastfeeding moms? I love this book. It reinforces that breastfeeding 'to three and beyond' is normal and not freakish.Product details

To Three and Beyond Stories of Breastfed Children and the Mothers Who Love Them eBook Janell Robisch Reviews
Like Ina Mays Guide to Childbirth and LLLs The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding, To Three and Beyond has earned its permanent spot next to my bed and in my day bag, where I can reach for it and grab some inspiration any time I like. What a fantastic book!
This is a timely and beautiful collection of stories of mothers who choose to breastfeed their children past the age of three. The stories included were heartfelt and touching and alternately made me laugh with joy and weep with their sweet and sometimes melancholy nature. My daughter is almost 5 and is still nursing, and I found comfort from reading other mothers' personal experiences. Thanks to Janell Robisch for putting this collection together. I highly recommend this book!
This is a great book, the mothers tell their stories as they have experienced them and I felt like I was right there with them, sharing their joy, their doubts, their frustration, their anger... but most of all their love for their children. I admire each and every one of them for being brave enough to go against the norm and do what is best for their child - and being brave enough to 'come out' in a society that sees us as odd at best - and as abusive at worst. I would recommend this book to all mothers who find themselves 'still nursing' when everyone around them has stopped - it's like meeting soul-mates. And I recommend this book also to those who have doubts about mothers' motivation to breastfeed 'to term'.
This is an excellent collection of real stories from real mothers, telling it like it really is. If you're interested in natural term breastfeeding, then this is the book for you!
Great book!
